Old Gold Classic Scholarship Weekend

Brotherhood Through Competition, Excellence Through Education

History

The Old Gold Classic Scholarship Weekend is a story of brothers beyond the letters. Founded by Ron Cineas (Omega Psi Phi), Shawn Harvey (Alpha Phi Alpha), and Elton Johnson (Alpha Phi Alpha), three friends who met as freshmen at USF in 2001, the event was born from a shared commitment to scholarship and service. United by their Old Gold colors, they created the first OGC basketball game in February 2005 at USF Recreation Center to provide scholarship opportunities for high school seniors.

Today, the Old Gold Classic continues this legacy as one of Theta Gamma Chapter's premier annual events. The weekend features a spirited basketball game between Alpha Phi Alpha and Omega Psi Phi, fostering camaraderie and friendly competition. Beyond the game, OGC weekend includes various activities that bring together brothers from both fraternities, all while raising funds to support scholarships for deserving students.

The bond between the founders remains strong, reflected in the close relationship between Theta Gamma (Alpha Phi Alpha) and Upsilon Delta (Omega Psi Phi). During OGC weekend, we work and compete, as brothers, for a greater cause—supporting the next generation's pursuit of higher education.
